Removing Wilber from the toolbox in GIMP 2.6

GIMP 2.6 was realeased a few days ago. One of the main UI change was the addition of a "empty image window", and the removal of the menu from the toolbox.

But ... now instead of the menu, there's an empty space on top of the toolbox, with a Wilber image in it (yes, that's "him"). It's supposed to be a "drop target", a place where you can drag and drop files from your file manager, to open them. Note that the area containing the tools is already a drop target, so many people (including me :p) complained that this 2nd drop target was waste of space. Especially if you are using an horizontal toolbox layout, or if your layers dialog is just under the toolbox.

The good news is: you can remove that Wilber drop-target from the toolbox. Find your gimprc file (it should be inside your ~/.gimp-2.6/ directory) and add  (toolbox-wilber no) at the end of it. Save and start GIMP : no more wasted space :)

Supprimer Wilber de la boîte à outils :

GIMP 2.6 est sorti il y a quelques jours. Un des changements principaux de l'interface est l'ajout d'une fenêtre "pas d'image" (visible quand il n'y a aucune image ouverte, donc) et la suppression du menu de la boîte à outils.

Mais ... maintenant, au lieu de ce menu, il y a un espace vide en haut des outils, avec un visage de Wilber (si si, c'est lui). C'est censé être une "drop target", une "zone de glisser-déposer", autrement dit, un endroit où vous pouvez glisser/déposer des fichiers depuis votre gestionnaire de fichier pour les ouvrir. Remarquez que la zone contenant les outils permet déjà cela. Du coup, pas mal de gens (dont moi :p) se sont plaint de l'espace perdu à cause de cette zone doublon. En particulier pour les gens ayant une boîte à outils horizontale - ou bien ceux ayant le dialogue des calques juste sous la boîte à outils.

La bonne nouvelle, c'est qu'il est possible de supprimer cette zone de glisser/déposer de la boîte à outils. Trouvez votre fichier gimprc (il devrait être dans le répertoire ~/.gimp-2.6) et ajoutez (toolbox-wilber no) à la fin. Sauvegardez et lancez GIMP : hop, plus d'espace perdu ! :)

When I saw Wilber on top of my tools icon, I said yeah thats just fine. But when I saw your tweak, this is much better. Thanks for the tip.
